Oakway recently collaborated with Jones Food Company (JFC) on their JFC2 Lydney project. Glyn Stevens, Head Grower from JFC approached Oakway to develop a bespoke cantilever-style racking system for one of the world’s largest vertical farms.

Collaborative Design Approach: Oakway’s design team worked closely with JFC throughout the project, ensuring that every detail was tailored to their specific needs. Regular meetings and feedback sessions were held to align the design with JFC’s operational requirements.
Tailored Engineering Solution: Oakway developed a unique racking system specifically designed to fit seamlessly with the vertical farm’s electrical and irrigation infrastructure. This required precise engineering to ensure optimal integration, maximising space and maintaining full functionality.
Durable and Hygienic Finish: The racking system was designed to withstand the humid and hygienic conditions of the vertical farm. Oakway selected materials and finishes that were both durable and easy to clean, ensuring long-term performance and compliance with hygiene standards.
Precision Installation: The installation process was meticulously planned and executed, with tolerances less than 1mm per 75 linear metres of racking. This ensured that all crop trays remained level, which is critical for the efficient operation of the vertical farm.
Cost-Effective Manufacturing and Installation: Oakway focused on delivering a solution that was not only of a high-quality but also cost-effective. By optimising the design and installation processes, they were able to meet JFC’s budget constraints without compromising on quality.
